All about cream…

Cream is made up of natural fats, which are lighter than the liquid in milk, so they float to the top, forming a layer of cream!

In dairy factories, cream is separated from the milk by powerful machine called a centrifuge. All types of cream you see in the grocery store are made by adding different amounts of milk to dilute the fat content.

The nutritional value of cream varies from one type of cream to another. One cup of whole cream will have nutrients that could give you 13% of your daily vitamin A intake and 25% of your daily calcium intake.

The fat content of whole cream can be between 35 to 45% - if you picture this in a cup of milk that’s over 1/3 of fat full. Cream can be ‘whipped’ to make it stiffer and the more fat that is in the cream, the easier it is to whip. When cream is whipped too much it will turn into butter!
